24/7 Keyholding Services for Businesses Across the UK

What is a keyholding service?

A keyholding service is where a professional security company holds the keys to your business premises and attends on your behalf when access is needed, most often when an intruder alarm activates out of hours. Keys are stored securely and logged, and a trained officer attends, inspects, secures the site and reports to you, so no member of staff has to respond.

Professional Alarm Response When Your Alarm Activates

What happens when my business alarm goes off?

Your alarm receiving centre (ARC) contacts Keysure and the nearest available SIA-licensed officer is dispatched with your keys and site instructions. The officer inspects the premises, calls the police or emergency services if there are signs of a break-in, secures the site where it is safe and authorised, and you receive a digital report.

Alarm response is the attendance at a premises after an alarm activation, to establish whether it is a genuine incident, a fault or a false alarm. It is separate from alarm monitoring: your ARC monitors the signal, and Keysure attends. See what happens when a business alarm goes off.

How Keyholding & Alarm Response Works

  1. Site onboarding. We record your premises, opening hours, alarm details, contacts and any site hazards.
  2. Keys and site instructions recorded securely. Keys are coded, stored without your address on them and logged with a chain-of-custody record.
  3. Alarm activation received. Your ARC contacts Keysure and our 24-hour control room logs the call.
  4. Responder dispatched. The nearest available SIA-licensed officer is sent with your keys and your site instructions.
  5. Property inspected. The officer checks the outside of the premises and, where authorised, the inside.
  6. Incident escalated where necessary. If there are signs of a break-in or danger, the police or emergency services are contacted and you are informed.
  7. Site secured. Where it is safe and authorised, the officer secures the premises and leaves it as agreed.
  8. Digital report issued. You receive a timestamped report with GPS-verified attendance, available in your client portal.

Why Use a Professional Keyholding Company?

  • Protects your employees. Nobody on your payroll has to drive to an unattended building at 2am to find out why an alarm has gone off.
  • Reduces lone-working risk. Attending an unknown alarm activation alone is a lone-working risk. The HSE expects employers to assess and manage it.
  • Always available. A staff keyholder can be on holiday, ill or asleep. A professional service is staffed around the clock.
  • Trained, licensed response. Officers hold SIA licences, are DBS-checked and are trained in alarm response and site security.
  • Consistent procedures. Every call-out follows the same documented process, whoever attends and whichever site it is.
  • Managed incidents. Police liaison, customer contact and follow-up are handled as part of the service.
  • An audit trail. Key movements and attendances are logged, which helps with insurers, auditors and your own review.
  • Multi-site consistency. One provider, one process and one set of reports across every premises you operate.

Lock & Unlock Services

Officers open your premises in the morning and lock up in the evening, set and unset the alarm where authorised, and log each visit. Lock and unlock services.

How Much Does Keyholding Cost?

Keyholding is priced for each site, so there is no single UK price. Keysure provides a free, no-obligation written quote once we know your requirements. See our keyholding cost guide.

What to Prepare Before Onboarding

Onboarding is digital. If you have the information to hand, setup can take as little as 20 to 30 minutes of your time. It helps to have: the address and opening hours of each premises; your alarm company or ARC and alarm reference; who to contact after an incident, in order; access arrangements; known site hazards; and what the officer is, and is not, authorised to do on arrival.
